Effective January 1st, 2020 General Statute 87-10.2 requires qualifiers for Building, Residential, or Unclassified licenses, as a condition to renew the license, to complete eight (8) hours of Continuing Education (CE) for 2021 and all future license renewals,  Two (2) of the eight (8) hours shall be a mandatory class.

Continuing education requirements for North Carolina general contractors include:

• 8 hours of CE must be completed in order to renew a license by at least one qualifier for licensees in the license classifications of Building, Residential and Unclassified. For the Unclassified license, it shall be the qualifier who has passed the Building examination.
• The 8-hour course requirement includes a mandatory 2-hour course produced by the Board with information about changes in the laws and rules and other content applicable to general contracting.
• The remaining 6 hours will be elective courses produced by outside providers, submitted to and approved by the Board.

The CE year begins January 1 and ends on November 30 annually.  No classes will be offered in December.  After November 30th the Qualifier will enter a 90 day grace period, in which a $10 monthly late fee will be charged beginning January 1st.  A Qualifier can carry over 4 hours of elective credit to next year.

This class will be offered on Zoom, and will include web-based, real-time video conferencing enabling our approved instructors and students to see and hear each other and for the instructor to screen share so students can view material being taught. You must participate in this course from a computer or device with a working camera and microphone. Access by cell phone is not allowed.

In order to connect reliably, you will need a desktop or laptop computer with a camera and microphone, internet access, and software requirements (in order to download Zoom). A hard-wired connection directly to the internet is highly recommended, as Wi-Fi connections can result in intermittent connectivity. Participants who cannot maintain connection throughout the class will be at risk for not receiving certification.
